Starworks London Summer Day Out

On Thursday 25th August, Starworkers in London (and Candice Roy and Sarah Daily representing NYC) all congregated to have their summer day out in the picturesque village of Hurley, near Henley on Thames. The group set out on a typically grey and wet British summer morning but as the day went on the weather took an unexpected turn and ended up being beautiful

(The whole team, Glasgow included, on the way to Henley)

Once we arrived in Hurley, Henley-on-Thames, we were treated to a pre-stroll garlic infused Bloody Mary at The Olde Bell and then on we went along the Thames. Yasmin and George, seen below, made a particular effort to fit in to the countryside with their outfits.

The stroll took us along the picturesque village of Hurley, which the Thames runs through. The team crossed bridges, walked amongst sheep and basked in the sun.

After the walk, and with the sun out, the team made it back to The Olde Belle for lunch in our very own private garden. Lunch was followed by a Starworks group quiz fronted by quizmasters Nicki Bidder and George MacPherson. After much heated discussion on some of the questionable marking, the winners were declared and prized with Smythson notebooks and champagne. The team spent the rest of the afternoon enjoying the sun and a few glasses of wine before making the journey back to London

She came…She went…She did NOT conquer

Hurricane Irene came storming up the East Coast as if on a mission. By the time she got here, it was nothing more than some wind and rain. Starworks NY-ers experienced the hurricane from CT, NY and NJ. Here are some pics from the experience…

Raman K. braved the storm home in NJ with his wife, ADORABLE sons, and lots of flooding.

Randi P. had the ultimate prep kit– a stack of September issues, the biggest flashlight she could find, a poncho from Duane Reade, and of course, her beloved Pirates Booty.

Never one to let a little rain deter her from hitting the shore (yes, the JERSEY SHORE), Simone D. headed south to her house to check out the surf. But alas, she did evacuate from NJ to Brooklyn where she stumbled on a 24 hour Hurricane Party! #jealous

hi.DEFF hosts fashion mixer in Soho

Last Wednesday night, editors, PRs, emerging designers and tastemakers alike joined for a night of revelry at The Yard at the SoHo Grand. The common factor that brought the fashionable flock together? hi.DEFF: a vaguely mysterious, members-only club, whose mission is to fuse together the “new guard” of fashion professionals.

Curious? We thought so.

Founded by friends Justine Harman (an assistant editor at People.com and PeopleStyleWatch.com), Lindsay Niggeman (an account manager at WIRED) and Lizzie Rosenberg (an associate merchant at J.Crew),  hi.DEFF was born when they cobbled a list of the contacts with whom they work, but rarely converge, within their own corner of the industry- genius! Their first tête-à-tête, a gathering at the Jane in late March, brought out the likes of stylist Annabel Tollman, Wall Street Journal’s Rachel Dodes, WWD’s Rachel Strugatz and Leandra “The Man Repeller” Medine.

The second installment or shall we say, fashion mixer, was accompanied by potent rum punch, handmade leather friendship bracelets and Timo Weiland designer Alan Eckstein’s bumping beats. With a laid-back arena, guests including Teen Vogue’s Mary-Kate Steinmiller, Gilt’s Melissa Liebling-Goldberg and CFDA’s Johanna Stout were able to connect without an agenda.
