two D or not two D
November 12, 2008 on 3:47 pm | In SW-Events, - SW TEAM | Comments OffIt doesn’t take a mathematician to realize two D’s make DSQUARED2. Leave it to Dean and Dan Caten to have everything add up last Thursday at their soirĂ©e in Los Angeles. The Dynamic Duo or better yet, double D’s, busted through Penthouse 64 of the Chateau Marmont holding French Martini’s.

Cheek to cheek kisses filled the air as they greeted guests that awaited their arrival. Among the many names that attended, there was an exceptional view of vignettes frolicking the penthouse. Including Christina Aguilera, Lindsay Lohan, Mischa Barton, Zoe Saldana and Nicole Richie with beau Joel Madden. The evening span off with tunes from DJ Steve Aoki and Brent Bolthouse who jumped in for a quick set.
Soon after the last glass was poured and candles burned out. Dean and Dan retired to a more intimate setting in their Bungalow, luring a few guests back with them. The evening was full of alphabetical letters such as W magazine who co-hosted the event along with D2.
This was my first Starworks event and I was beyond impressed. So I suppose that’s about it for D.W. & I.

Prada Short Film
November 10, 2008 on 3:04 pm | In Art, Other-NewMedia, - Jauretsi | Comments OffIf you haven’t seen “That Dress” yet for Prada this season, then here it is. It’s the lace number that’s graced all the magazines in the last few months.

(The Dress in Prada’s short film, Fallen Shadow)
The short film has been out a few months already but I’m posting it here as an excellent example of “Branded Entertainment”. The dress is shown prominently throughout the film yet you’re not really bugged by it because one follows the cryptic tale undistracted. It’s an elegant marriage of product and story line.
The narrative basically involves a woman deep in thought, perhaps having an existential moment as her shadow explores the world around her. Finally the shadow confronts the person in a cathartic embrace. Sniff. Sniff. The art piece has an original haunting score written by Antony & The Johnsons.
The website takes it a step further by presenting the collection within an artful collage-like manner. Altogether, the attention to detail for the Prada consumer is very considered. We look forward to seeing Prada’s New Media endeavors in the future.

Sharon Kills It Again!

(Sharon in center with Lyle and Friend)
With all the hectic emotion of the elections, we didn’t post our Staff Halloween post. It was worth digging up though.
This year, Starworker Sharon chose a “team outfit” as she grabbed business cohort Lyle Maltz as Assistant #1 and friend for Assistant #2.
Together, they maneuvered through New York parties “in character” — distracted by emergency blackberry messages, and giving that “oh-I-hate-this-fabulous-business-I’m-the-queen-of” type look.
