Anne Hathaway for C
October 9, 2008 on 4:53 pm | In SW-Editorials, - Jauretsi | Comments OffAnne Hathaway was one of those girls I caught on to late. The Princess Diaries didn’t necessarily “turn my tires” although it did establish Anne as a box office bet. Then I met her during my Jane days, and well, what can I say, she was just so damn confident, cool, smart, and personable. Her desire to act and really do “the work” poured out of her pores. I signed up as a fan.
By the time she appeared in Devil Wears Prada, she officially represented the archetype New York fashion girl with brains… juggling opposing worlds — attempting to earn a journalistic career, maneuvering through psychotic fashion egos, borrowing clothes from a fashion closet at a magazine, maintaining her boyfriend, impressing a hardcore publishing boss — all while taking inventory of her soul at the same time. Essentially it’s the age old story of “how-do-you-climb-the-nutty-fashion-ladder-with-integrity”. Personally I connected more with Anne’s character of Andy Sachs in Devil Wears Prada than I did with Carrie Bradshaw of Sex &The City.
So Anne is tackling the next frontier, going backwards from high-budget films, and earning cred in the independent film scene. Enter Rachel is Getting Married (See Trailer Here). It’s good to see her stripped down and raw. Go see the film out now.
Just as an aside, there is a very fascinating article on her ex-boyfriend in Vanity Fair. I’m sure she cringes at the idea of me posting this, but I think it creates an “equalizer” with all women in terms of looking back at some of our ex’es — the “what was I thinking” file? Somehow, when I read about this guy, the pathological liar who scammed the Vatican, I feel better about my poor choices. But I think most girls can identify in some weird way to being disillusioned by a Prince Charming.
