CLASSY

On Thursday evening, LA had the pleasure of hosting the latest stop on Derek Blasberg’s book launch tour. Celebs, socialites, fashionistas and tastemakers unite! CLASSY: Exceptional Advice for the Extremely Modern Lady is Derek’s first book – and a New York Times Bestseller at that! In this witty and informative book, Derek, Editor at Large at Harper’s Bazaar, Senior Editor at V and VMAN Magazines as well as Senior Editor at Large of Style.com, offers the modern lady tips on keeping it classy in an often trampy world.

The beautiful new Missoni store on Rodeo Drive hosted an evening of champagne, classy cupcakes and congratulations for Derek, who holds a special place in Starworks’ heart. Kate Bosworth, Nicole Richie, Margherita Missoni and style.com EIC Dirk Standen came out to host and support their fashionable friend for the evening. Other guests included Malin Akerman, Erdem, Dasha Zhukova, Nicky Hilton, Jeremy Scott, Cat Deeley, Rosetta Getty and Ali Larter.

Following the cocktail, a small group of VIPs joined Derek a few blocks away at Mr. Chow to continue the celebration over chicken skewers and lettuce wraps. Patricia Arquette and her husband Tom Jane (straight from wrapping for the day on his hit show HUNG), Vogue’s Lisa Love, Liz Goldwyn, Band of Outsiders’ Scott Sternberg, Olympia Scarry and Neville Wakefield were among the guests who joined to fete the man of the hour!

In a world where social etiquette do’s and don’ts are often blurred and challenged by a society where often anything goes, we can all use a little advice! For more information on where to purchase CLASSY, click here: CLASSY: Exceptional Advice for the Extremely Modern Lady.

Starworks Group is proud to have created the branding, identity, marketing materials and website for the Glasgow International Festival of Visual Arts through our branding arm – Marque. Last night, Glasgow’s vibrant art scene took over the city as its museums, galleries, and many other spaces showcased the work of both Glasgow-based and international artists in a vast array of exhibitions and events, celebrating the very best of contemporary visual art.

Over 50 artists are presenting sculpture, drawings, installations, films, videos, sound works, performances and music in venues ranging from the city’s renowned Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum -taking part in this growing event for the first time – to the Hunterian Art Gallery and Tramway to diverse artist-run collectives, small galleries and temporary sites.

With many projects revolving around the theme of ‘past, present, future’, Glasgow International Festival of Visual Art opens today, 16 April 2010 for two weeks. The Festival’s exhibitions program is complemented by a lively series of talks, screenings, seminars, performances and other events.

On Tuesday, Starworks Group London held our AW2010 Press Day. When we weren’t calculating how we could move into the venue, we were showcasing our clients’ Autumn/Winter Womenswear, Menswear, and Accessories. We also screened films from DazedDigital.com, Swarovski.tv, and SHOWstudio. The editors and stylists loved the new looks, and the day was a massive success.

My Last Blog Post at Starworks

Hello Starworks readers. Today I write my final post for the Starworks blog. It’s been 4 years since we proudly launched this blog for all our Luxury brands, magazine clients, and overall friends in the industry. The years 2006 to 2010 have been a whirlwind of activity in the field of New Media, Advertising, Publishing, and Film — all topics you’ll hear me writing about on future endeavors at Sugar Barons, “All Things Digital, Film, Arts & Culture”.

As you know, my mind thinks in terms of music, so this has been the tune I’ve been humming all day…a joyful favorite — “Adieu, Adieu, to you and you and you”…. For my last post, I thought I’d cull together some flashbacks working for Starworks. Here ya go….

My Top 5 Memories at Starworks

J DJING-costello(Spinning Costello Tagliapietra Fashion Show)

5- All the cool Fashion Week gigs I DJ’ed for Starworks clients and beyond — La Perla, Costello Tagliapietra, and Sue Stemp… in addition to the other Fashion Week days and nights backstage snapping pics for our blog with the most talented Starworks PR girls.

UNDERWATER (Underwater Model for Mnemosyne)

4- Shooting underwater in a pool at night at a Hollywood movie lot (where The Abyss was filmed) in order to film Daphne Guinness’ art short for Mnemosyne. Our entire crew was is scuba gear pulling an all-nighter, including David Parker and Kai Regan.

brody (Director Brody Baker at Sundance Film Festival)

3- All the Sundance movie trips with Greg Krelenstein and Marni Golden, where we deliriously (yet blissfully) screened up to 5 movies a day trekking in the snow. My favorite year was when we cast the experimental art shorts for the New York Times website (T Magazine) entitled Take, Utah directed by Brody Baker.

PHARRELL-screengrab-500x480

2- My voyage to Art Basel last year to shoot a series of videos for New York Times website with 6 artists. The memory includes Director Crystal Moselle, Photographer Dan Martensen, several Scarface quoting in Miami, and pulling all-nighters editing the video for 24 hour turnaround on the website. Ahhh, the deadlines for New Media. We love the pressure.

and the #1 memory working at Starworks is… (drumroll please)

karl_lagerfeld_grand_theft_auto

1- Strolling into the Rockstar Games headquarters in New York with Karl Lagerfeld on one arm and Daphne Guinness on the other — to discuss getting Karl’s image and voice into Grand Theft Auto IV. It was a “home-run” meeting. Pretty classic.

TUCKER2..
(Tucker at Leila’s in London)

Last night, Tucker’s Gaby Basora hosted a dinner at Leila’s (East London’s best kept secret). The menu was delicious with sprouting broccoli to start, roasted beef cheeks with celeriac and carrot gratin and roasted rhubarbs served with vanilla ice cream… Yum Yum!! — Bianca (Starworks London)
