RIP Cosmo Girl

(Breaking News: Another One Bites the Dust)
CosmoGirl is folding! Statement from Hearst, quoted by Mr. Bercovici:
“Hearst Magazines has made a strategic decision to consolidate its teen publishing activities into Seventeen, the largest-selling monthly teen magazine on newsstands. Effective with the December issue, CosmoGirl will cease as a print magazine, remaining online only at cosmogirl.com. CosmoGirl’s subscriber base will be folded into Seventeen.”
Another loss for Print. Another win for New Media.

V Mag: Collector Covers
September 22, 2008 on 12:13 pm | In Other-Editorials, Fashion Week, - Jauretsi | Comments OffCheck out these DJ’s…

(Anja Rubik spun a set at V Magazine’s launch for Issue 55)
Well, they’re not your average professional DJ’s, but V Magazine managed to rally some of their covergirls to spin at the launch of their Sept/October issue last Fashion Week. There were no record crates, or Serrato’s hooked up to laptops — just simple IPods sets. The real DJ, Spencer Product, manned the decks. Hark the era of amateur Supermodel DJ’s — and peeking into the personal collection of a glamazon.

(Launch DJ’s: Eniko Mihalik, Malgosia Bela, Anna Selezneva)
Lykke Li, the adorable Swedish import and band of the moment, played a live set. Her album is currently on heavy rotation here at the Starworks office. As you can tell, it was a very good looking party.

(More DJ’s of the night: Sunniva Stordahl, Abbey Kershaw)
For all the collector-heads, this issue of V Magazine (their biggest issue yet) has 14 covers. Here’s more cover ladies…

(Daria Werbowy, Frankie Rayder)

(Natasha Poly, Christy Turlington, Agyness Deyn)
Photographed by Inez Van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadine. Grab the issues while they’re hot at V Magazine. Party pics and slideshow of the night are here.

Sylvia Leaves Dazed
September 2, 2008 on 1:24 pm | In Other-Editorials, - Jauretsi | Comments OffAfter 7 long years at Dazed & Confused Magazine, Sylvia Farago has recently decided to move on. She says, “I would like to thank everyone I’ve worked and collaborated with”. Her plans are to work on a more independent level.

Jauretsi: What was your job at Dazed?
Sylvia: I was the Photographic Director which includes managing special projects and art directing/producing photo shoots.
In the last 7 years of working in Print media, how have you seen media landscape change with creative types now that the internet plays a major factor?
The internet has given a platform for creatives to showcase projects and personal work which would have gone unseen. Print media, although more luxurious, is quite restrictive for space. More and more projects are appearing online - projects that you wouldn’t have seen 7 years ago.
Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?

Sylvia is now available on a Freelance level — Commissioning, Production, and Special projects. Contact sylviajfarago@gmail.com. November 2008 will be her last issue so make sure to pick it up!
We wish her luck on her next adventures.

Luxury Swedish Chef
August 28, 2008 on 4:10 pm | In Other-Editorials, - Jauretsi | Comments OffThis fashion spread kicks Kermie the Skater in the ass. I mean, look how effortlessly the Swede rocks his Versace. Our Greg helped work on other features in this issue with his razor-sharp booking skills (Read new actress Juno Temple inside).

(The Muppets’ Swedish Chef in POP, Fall 2008)
Best part is the interview. The chef (who claims he’s an Aquarius) doesn’t speak English, so Kermie serves as the translator for this interview:
POP: Which goes in first, the milk or the tea?
Chef: Voo der pfoodle smooten, un den dee plosker spliten smozzle flink, fur shure.
Kermie: The tea, then the milk, then the pinky finger for stirring.
Pop: Do you approve of fast food?
Chef: Vot dee hooey!? Noodee frisken fur de loopdee versk, yoobethca!
Kermie: No. The Chef prefers food that stands still.
