Wonderland MakeOver
August 5, 2008 on 2:26 pm | In - Greg, SW-Editorials | Comments OffNew art direction for Wonderland

(Wonderland’s September 08 Issue drops in Europe this week)
Wonderland’s spirit of “young London cool” will always be found inside the pages, however its graffiti text is replaced by a new sophistication and huge star power (the incomparable Julianne Moore).
Also inside, look out for gorgeous images of Josh Peck and Olivia Thirlby in their 90’s tribute to getting stoned in the Summer and listening to B.I.G. — their film, The Wackness, hits UK shores at the end of August.

Dancing Queen
July 17, 2008 on 3:32 pm | In - Greg, Film | Comments OffThis weekend at the cinema is all about Heath Ledger. The Dark Knight is receiving rave reviews from the top critics (EW.com).
Our editorial department screened it earlier this week and our one tip is to see it in IMAX for the jaw dropping scenes of the city. You actually feel like you’re flying with Batman. That being said, apart from the amazing Heath Ledger performance, there’s a whole lot of action without the strong story of the first Christopher Nolan installment. So….for more summer fun, and until you can get into the IMAX theater, spend your time with a singing dancing Meryl Streep in Mamma Mia.
I think the film isn’t getting the raves of Batman, but I had a lot more fun watching Amanda Seyfried and Dominic Cooper in Greece. And nothing tops Christine Baranski!

2 Insiders
July 17, 2008 on 3:23 pm | In Other-Editorials, - Greg | Comments OffFashion’s biggest behind the scenes players have the cameras turned on them for 2 very interesting in depth profiles.

(Agyness Deyn for POP: muse to both Katie Grand and Mario Testino)
The stars of the photography and styling worlds are usually kept behind the scenes, but it was so interesting to read about 2 of most important players in their respective worlds. Both are involved in 2 of the magazines we contribute to here at Starworks.
(1) Katie Grand is a stylist tour de force for brands like Louis Vuitton but she is the creative everything force behind one of the industry’s most respected fashion superglossy bibles, POP. Read Guardian.co.uk.
(2) Mario Testino shoots the top celebrities for the Visionaire stable of magazines, V & VMan. Though it’s never our policy to “Gossip” about our publications on this site, Mario already let it out of the bag who is gracing the cover of the Winter VMAN sending millions of teenage girls and boys hearts a flutter. The Virgins
June 2, 2008 on 2:58 pm | In - Greg, Music | Comments OffReview of The Virgins album
by Greg Krelenstein

(The Virgins, photographed for Interview Magazine)
Now, I know we post a lot about our favorite NYC band, The Virgins (previous post here), but when the full length came into my hands last week, I felt compelled to write about them once again.
The album hits stores tomorrow (June 3) and in a perfect world, these would be the songs of the summer knocking out any of the singles New York Magazine singled out last week (Summer Songs by New York Mag).
NYC hasn’t been treated to a home grown cool rock band since the wave of The Strokes, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and Interpol in 2001, but beyond the hype, The Virgins have released quite a different sounding record.
This album is jammed with singles that truly wouldn’t be out of place next to Rihanna on the FM.
Feel free to blast “Rich Girls,” “She’s Expensive,” and “Private Affair” on your weekend getaways and summer BBQ’s.
