Miu Miu Fall/Winter 08-09
July 16, 2008 on 3:26 pm | In - Candice, SW-Campaigns, - Jauretsi | Comments OffMiu Miu’s website has freshly posted their images of Fall/Winter 08-09 collection on MiuMiu.com. We love casting for Miu Miu because of their intent to find tough women that have a fragile edge to them. Last season, we showed you Kirsten Dunst for Miu Miu in her Moulin Rouge theater-esque glory.
This season, the vision by Miuccia Prada hints at an undisclosed world. The surreal place in time is a modern day metropolis of LA, but still an alternate reality. Miuccia’s campaigns tend to put women in scenarios that overlap intellect, imagination, and divergence.
The heroine of this series is a woman we don’t get to see much here in the States, Vanessa Paradis. I sorta fell in love with her when I first saw Girl on a Bridge, a cute little french film that shows us, well, a girl on a bridge ready to say goodbye to the cruel world — before her soulmate strolls into her life. The relationship is as dysfunctional as Maggie Gyllenhall’s character in Secretary but just as complimentary, thrilling, and complete. You’re going to have to watch the trailer Girl on a Bridge to see what I mean.
In essence, Miu Miu’s new protagonist is highly stylized and powerfully independent. In real life, Vanessa has been entertaining since she was 7 years old (appearing on French TV show L’Ecole des Fans). In 1989, she won the César for Most Promising Actress in the film Noces Blanches, and has put out several records (one which spawned a #1 single in 15 different countries). Keep in mind she collaborated with Serge Gainsbourg on the album Variations sur le Même t’aime in the 90’s. She is still traveling the world with her new set of songs released late last year.

Gladiator Sandals
May 22, 2008 on 4:10 pm | In - Candice, Other-Designers, - SW TEAM | Comments OffGwyneth has been rockin’ some serious footwear while she has been making the rounds promoting her new film Iron Man.

(Gwyn in her Glads)
This film marks her much-anticipated comeback to the big screen after an extended hiatus and it has been her skyscraper-high heels which have really taken center stage. She’s still sporting the killer heels after she just broke her leg — talk about the price of beauty.
Lindsay and I are obsessed–these are our favs:
Starworks girls have all scooped up these gladiators from Nine West (yes, you read that right — Nine West). They are less pricey and just as cute!

The Met goes Blog

Wandering through the expansive halls of the MET last Sunday, I came across the Costume Institute’s blog.mode: addressing fashion installation. Viewers can see over 40 pieces of dresses, shoes and bags, dating from the 18th century to the present, including designs from Vivienne Westood, Yohji Yamamoto, Comme des Garcons, Jean Paul Gaultier, and more.
On top of that, the renowned institution has even forayed into one of the guilty pleasures of the 21st century - the Blogosphere. The public is invited to comment on what they see at an exhibit-specific blog, and leave their thoughts on the inspiration and construction of particular looks. Although people can view the collection and post online at http://blog.metmuseum.org/blogmode/, nothing compares to seeing it in person, however, a major component of the exhibit itself are the blog stations positioned in the middle of the gallery.

(Contemplative blogger. Each of these looks below has tons of public commentaries online)
Fashion is a living art form here, and open to multiple interpretations…and bloggers don’t shy away from freedom of expression! One of the most innovative aspects of this exhibit/blog is seeing the general public so contemplative about fashion…it is refreshing in a world where our choices and thoughts are limited to and guided by what we see in stores and magazines.
The blog has been up since Dec 2007 but hurry up, because the exhibition closes on April 13, 2008. Here are just a few of the looks on display:

(1- Alexander McQueen’s “Oyster Dress”, Spring/Summer 2003. Ivory silk chiffon and silk organza. 2- Olivier Theyskens for Nina Ricci. Evening Dress. Spring/Summer 2007. Steel gray heat-crinkled silk organza embroidered with linear chain stitch in white silk)

(1- John Galliano for Christian Dior Couture “Creation” Ensemble, Fall/Winter 2005–6. Beige silk satin, beige cotton braided laces, blue pieced silk with chenille, hammered silver metal, bead embroidery, white leather, silver metal and pearl hardware. 2- Karl Lagerfeld French, born Germany, 1938, for Chanel. Boots, Fall/Winter 1993–94)

(1- Yves Saint Laurent Coat, Fall/Winter 1983–84. Yellow silk faille. 2- French Dress, Robe à la Française, ca. 1765. Pale blue silk satin with hammered silver floral brocade and silver bobbin lace trim)
New Mugs

(Bubby’s, Tribeca, NYC. Downtown and downstairs!)
So, by now, I’m sure you’ve all noticed that we gave our blog contributor pics a bit of a much needed face-lift. We took a group field trip to Bubby’s Pie Co. on Hudson St. where they have an old school photo booth built into the wall in the downstairs hallway. It took some time and we did encounter a few issues with the old technology but, all in all, it was a successful excursion.

Cheap Trick for John Varvatos
February 29, 2008 on 7:10 pm | In - Candice, SW-Campaigns | Comments OffI love the new John Varvatos campaign with Cheap Trick.
It was shot by Danny Clinch on the Santa Monica Pier. Sharon was on location and said that everyone was so obsessed with the vintage bicycles that they were all riding them around… with many near miss crashes.
