Shop News from London…

The word is out….it’s been brewing for a while actually. A new way of accessing some of our favourite London designers and their most (perhaps) inaccessible pieces is on it’s way. Coming Tuesday 9th… Jeanette’s….
I have a special interest in this one… and i’m sure most of our crowd in London has a similar story of association. Jeanette — or James as he is sometimes known — has been many things to many people, perhaps his most famous and recent incarnation being the door whore du jour of the legendary Boombox in Hoxton/Shoreditch, where he wowed us regularly in dresses (lent personally by the likes of Chris Kane, Richard Nicoll, Giles Deacon and Marios Schwab). Those were the days…
To me, Jeanette, was definitely more of a James, who worked with me on some of my PR accounts when I worked at another agency in London years ago, he also cut my hair once or twice and they were definitely the best cuts I ever had.
Now Jeanette has turned his rather dab hand to buying, or more significantly, putting together an awesome collection of designers together in what (one imagines) might be a very cool shop.
Incidentally, I just remembered a talk Jeanette gave a few years ago with FashionEast – he was stuck for a split second answering a “what will you do next” question. He mumbled something about opening a shop and we laughed about it afterwards being a knee-jerk response that seems to have actually found some serious fruition.
Calling on those same friends whose clothes he once wore on the door, and with the addition of some of the new wave of designers who have sprung up since – here’s the latest roll-call, fresh from the shop’s blog at jeanettesshop.blogspot.com
His words:
“The concept of the shop is to offer one-off and hard-to-get wears from some of the most exciting designers, artist and creatives.
to start with Richard Nicoll, Louise Grey, James Long have designed new, never before seen pieces keeping in the spirit of their influences”
“We are also stocking previously unavailable pieces from Giles Deacon,Christopher Kane and Judy Blame .”
“Jessica Ogden, Kim Jones and Joe Casely-Hayford have let me delve into there extensive archive and picked some really gorge garms!!”
“I am also incredibly excited that Turner prize Nominee Mark Titchner has designed limited edition printed t-shirts exclusively for Jeanette’s”
“Inside the shop the very talented Benjamin Alexander Huseby has created sculptures/furniture”
“The shop front has been built by the acclaimed set designer Tony Hornecker and artist Giles Round has installed a hanging drape.”
I plan to see what all the fuss is about next week and take some pics for a further update. There’s something really interesting brewing in independent fashion/art retail in London at the moment, what with this and a brand new concept about to launch from SHOWstudio (news on the way).
A tide of recession-resentment? We’ll take it gift wrapped.
