Scott Barclay, David Hickman and Nick Thomas, together, form Idol Radec, the Los Angeles based clothing company that is making some serious waves in and around the industry. With SS09 marking their third season, this trio has their hands in all aspects of the business. From designing to marketing, the Idol Radec collection appeals to a broad range of “gentleman” types. Quoted as being “spawned from an inspiration and desire to take classic men’s wear and re-interpret it for today’s confident man. In a vigorous pursuit of unrefined sophistication, Idol Radec is inspired by its affinity for boating, motorcars, leisure, and the occasional 18 holes”. And there you have it.

Tell us, what was your original mission when you formed IDOL RADEC? To Fill a void in the menswear market that offered a modern americana aesthetic, using high-end fabrics, slimmer tailored fits and at an accessible price point. We set out to design a brand that reflected our lifestyles by offering pieces that work for the office, leisure, and socializing in the evenings.
What can we expect from your next collection? Dark earthy colors and muted plaids and incorporating these using boiled wools, fine cordouroy and moleskins to name a few. Without giving to much away… Mixing up traditional staple items from your closet and offering it in untraditional fabrics that function.

Any collaborations in the works? We designed a weekend duffel bag using Dozume (judo fabric), leather and Chicago Screws with bag designer and architect, Francisco Mondet. In the future would love to do a collaboration with leather goods or shoe designer.
How would you each define your personal style? Classic but with a twist….without over doing it.
What do you consider your biggest influences? Ralph Lauren (the American icon), Tom Ford (defining mens luxury to the masses) and Martin Margiela (impeccable craftmanship and innovator…. and being able to stay somewhat underground after all these years). In addition, we are inspired heavily by films by the greats such as Kubrick, Godard, and Antonioni.

What inspired your SS09 collection Black and Blue? Looking through old family photos albums of our grandparents on vacation in the 50’s to areas like Palm Springs, Lake Tahoe and road trips to Florida.
What is the meaning behind the name IDOL RADEC? IDOL RADEC just came to us, we like the way the name sounded, also radec is the name of a street that we grew up in Villa Park CA.

Since the three of you work together – who takes care of what aspects of the business? Since we are still a young company we all where a few hats..we all design as a collective, Scott focusses on product development and logistics. Nick handles marketing and press and event coordination, while David handles marketing and the financial side of the business.
