The Met Votes Are In…

Welcome to the wrap-up for The Costume Institute’s Party of the Year, or as the rest of us call it, “The Met”. It’s like the East Coast Oscars for Fashionistas minus the awards part. This year was a doozie. Every year there’s a theme to the gala, and this years was “Superhero”, which explains lots of the electric colors on the carpet this year. I took a Starworks poll for the fav looks from our office. Here they are:

Marni Golden (SW, NYC)
Who? Kate Mara in Zac Posen
Why? I thought her yellow gown was sexy, flirty and loud, and I LOVED the star clips in her hair that creatively reflected the superhero theme.

Stacey Gersten (SW2, NY)
Who? Eva Longoria in Marchesa
Why? Because one day I hope to attend the MET Ball and I would wear a gown like this. The ruffles, the train, the color, the silhouette - this is a gown!!!

Siobhan Donaghy (SW, London)
Who? Lake Bell
Why? She is wearing possibly the one design I wasn’t too keen on in a fabulous collection from Balmain, but seeing it on her has totally changed my mind. I now love the entire collection as she looks incredible.

Greg Krelenstein (SW, NYC)
Who? Christina Ricci
Why? She incorporated the superhero theme into an unconventional yet glamorous dress.

Sharon Ainsberg (SW, NYC)
Who? Christina Ricci
Why? She is far and away with Giselle Bundchen as a close 2nd place… It was a very tough concept this year…and Ricci pulls this off so glamorously, so perfectly. She’s created a modern Wonder Woman without looking cartoonish or silly. The key is, she actually looks HAPPY and COMFORTABLE in her Superhero red carpet moment…and that’s what makes it so fun, exciting and memorable.

Michelle (SW LA)
Who? Blake Lively
Why? I thought Blake Lively looked gorgeous and I loved her dress. I also thought Claudia Schiffer looked beautiful and loved the color of her dress. Gisele looked hot and the dress fit her amazing.

Allison (SW, LA)
Who? Max Azria
Why? His look has it all: Classic suit, comfort &originality. Did I mention comfort?

Catherine (SW, LA)
Who? Claire Danes
Why? Usually I find black dresses boring, but there is something about the cut of this dress that just makes it so sleek. The long sleeves, too, would normally deter me, but he’s cut it so intricately, with the sexy, revealing slip of shoulder that it all works together beautifully.

Who? Anna Wintour
Why? Lots of the ladies wimped out and didn’t go for theme of the night (but still looked gorgeous). I can understand considering the scrutiny of harsh eyeballs on this big night. But I mean, Anna Wintour? She’s got a free pass! She showed up in a Couture Chanel dress that made me think…. hmm, who’s this seductive futuristic Disney villainess? She’s a rockstar, I’m sorry.
