There’s a burst of love flowing for Brooklyn-head Santogold. This is her first real video directed by Nima Nourizadeh (who’s directed videos for Lily Allen, Dizzee Rascal, and Mark Ronson).
We’ve been lucky enough to see her play small yet high-energy shows for years, but this homegirl could blow up. Think a younger electro-slapped Gwen Stefani meets older influences like Missing Persons. She’s down with comrade M.I.A. and is embraced by hip radio stations in downtown Beirut to urban Afghanistan — part of a MySpace generation of artists who’ve built a loyal following through hard work. Spank Rock and Amanda Blank are usual tour buddies as they’re all a tight crew bouncing off eachother. In general, it’s a nice underground group of friends that are ready for bigger platforms. Power to you, girl!
