FORE-sight

One of the most down-lo subversive art guys I know, Chris Habib, has finally come out with a product of his own. I’m sure you’ve seen one of his socially conscious seeds planted on some street wall, or one of your favorite websites, or in some art-house theater. The guy’s art has been featured in museum exhibits, collections, galleries and Visionaire art issues. Chris’ voice also plays an intrinsic part in Sonic Youth’s aesthetic output (as will be evident when their entire body of artwork goes on a worldwide museum tour this summer).

What he truly excels at is giving other people the tools to create their own version of visual madness. Enter Fore, where he gives the common man (us) the gift of a provocative stencil book he hand-cut all by himself. It’s an original body of illustration work coupled with four-letter words. It’s as shallow or as deep as you want it to be. Read his own manifesto for Fore on his personal website (link below).

Use the stencils to customize a T-shirt, a sidewalk, or your fridge… or just enjoy the book as an artifact in and of itself. His girlfriend says it’s an “(anti)commodity for the ages”.
If you are in New York city, go to Printed Matter or The New Museum to buy the book for your Valentine honey. Note: The books are flying off the shelves. If you find these shops have run out, go to his personal website and tell Chris we sent you. He will personally create one for you and direct mail it. It’s a Limited Edition of 1000, so get to it!
