Meet Sarah

Above is a campaign our Kristi at SW2 booked for UNIQLO (a hipper Gap out of Japan) with the artist Sarah Sophie Flicker.
She’s adorable. She’s also Co-Founder and performer of The Citizen Band. The New Yorker calls them “neo-cabaret”, while New York Times Magazine refers to them as “a sexy take on Weimar-era cabaret”. Imagine sexy peasant songs, gypsy wisdom, trapeze acts, etc. Toss in some tunes lamenting on war, immigration, xenophobia, poverty, and hopes for political change.
If you’re worried about preachy propaganda — DON’T. Citizen Band is all about the essence of 1920′s cabaret. Member Karen Elson says “Cabaret does not point the finger. It just lays the story out for you to make up your own mind”. In other words, they just want to entertain and give a group hug to get through this grim world together. Balm for the soul.

The Troupe is a veritable “who’s who” of New York’s elegant bohemian downtown creatives — in addition to Sarah and Karen, there’s Rain Phoenix, Adam Dugas (of Fischerspooner fame), Craig Wedren (School of Rock composer), Angela McCluskey (recording artist and the 2nd coming of Karen Dalton’s heartbreaking voice), Chelsea Bacon, and sooooo many more talented members worth mentioning…..

Anyway, in this particular case, style *does* meet substance. The next show is called “The Panic is On”. It’s set up in a makeshift bomb shelter. It will be their 7th original showcase of songs. Check it out for yourself coming up on January 21st in NYC’s Highline Ballroom.
