I’ve been a huge huge lover of this music magazine journal for a few years now. Each issue is high-quality printing, writing, and photographs — something you proudly keep on your bookshelf like an old issue of National Geographic gradually growing into a solid collection. If you care to read about rare gems of old funk singers (some of whom were the seeds of hip hop breaks, and others just lost treasures), then this is a magazine worth subscribing to. This month, Wax Poetics celebrates its 25th issue with a Photo Issue theme (pictured above).
The Wax Poetics guys have just released their first book with their new publishing arm.
Its called The Wax Poetics Anthology Vol. 1 and its essentially, the greatest hits of issues #1-5 — includes James Browns drummer Clyde Stubblefield, Jazz god Charles Mingus, a retrospective article on Latin’s legendary label Fania Records, Reggae producers Clive Chin and King Tubby, and the list goes on and on and on…. there’s also smart interviews with contemporaries such as RZA and Prince Paul. All in hardbound coffeetable book glory! I can’t put it down.
